The National Federation of Demolition Contractors, the
voice of the UK demolition industry has awarded Southern 
Demolition Co. Ltd's Sidney Hunt  with the coveted 
"Outstanding Contribution to the Demolition Industry"
trophy.

Awarded at the Federation's Annual General Meeting on the 
06 March 2009, this award recognises a lifelong 
commitment to the industry by a third generation
demolition man who is now passing on his knowledge and
experience to his son, Paul.

Sidney Hunt Jnr entered the demolition industry in 1971,
following in the footsteps of his grandfather and, even
more dauntingly, his father Sidney Snr, one of the most
respected figures the sector has ever produced.

But Sidney Hunt Jnr forged his own path. A Fellow of the
Institute of Demolition Engineers, he was elected 
Chairman of the NFDC's London and Southern Counties
(L&SC) region. He also held the position of chairman
of the L&SC region's membership commitee and is proud of 
the fact that, in his role as representative for the 
L&SC region he is the longest serving member of the 
Federation's National Council. Following his father's
retirement and untimely death, Sidney Hunt Jnr also took
up the mantle as the NFDC's liaison with the Lord Snowdon
Award Scheme, a charity he has personally supported for
many years. Sidney Hunt Jnr was also influential in Lord
Snowdon's appointment as the NFDC's first (and only)
patron.

"Sidney Hunt Snr was one of the founding fathers of the
National Federation of Demolition Contractors and was a 
tough act to follow. But Sidney Jnr rose to the 
challenge," says NFDC's chief executive Howard Button, 
the second-longest-standing member of the NFDC's National
Council. "And now he has received the award (formerly 
Man of the Year Award) that was won by his father in 1980
and again in 1989. It is a fitting tribute to Sidney's
tireless work on behalf of this industry."
